ADA Reclaimed Its Old $0.244–$0.246 Base, Then Lost It Again

cardano ada markets market-structure macro
In the October 8 brief, I argued that ADA's former $0.244–$0.246 base had become overhead resistance once price fell through it. Four days later, that zone has been tested from both sides. ADA climbed back above it and then dropped below it again. Large-holder activity is now at a four-month high, and that raises the question for this week: is the whale activity strong enough to repair the failed reclaim, or is it just noise around a level that keeps rejecting price?
So far, the evidence points to a failed reclaim, not a repair.
The structure: above the zone, then back below it
CardanoScope's latest snapshot, captured at 16:00 UTC on October 12, put ADA at $0.2424. That is down 4.47% over 24 hours, with rolling 24-hour turnover of 1.578 billion ADA. CardanoScope's daily observations show how it got there:
- October 9: $0.232
- October 10: $0.243
- October 11: $0.249
- October 12: $0.2436
These are sampled observations, not daily closes, and the October 12 day is not finished.
The October 11 observation was above the $0.244–$0.246 zone, so ADA did get back above it. My October 8 framing was too rigid on that point, because the level turned out not to be a ceiling. It was not a successful reclaim either. Both October 12 readings sit back below the zone's lower edge.
The two loss figures measure different things:
- The 4.47% decline compares the 16:00 UTC snapshot with the price exactly 24 hours earlier. That implies ADA was trading near $0.254 at 16:00 UTC on October 11.
- The $0.249 observation for October 11 was sampled at a different, unspecified time that day.
Read together, they suggest ADA traded higher than $0.249 on October 11 before reversing. The full give-back from that intraday area is about 4.5%, not the roughly 2.7% that the daily observations alone would suggest. That strengthens the failed-reclaim reading: ADA got further above the old base than the daily series shows and still could not stay there.
The larger area lost earlier is still far away. CardanoScope's October 6 and October 7 observations were $0.2704 and $0.2675. ADA has not seriously challenged either one.¹
Turnover did not confirm the move
Volume does not make the reclaim look better. Rolling 24-hour turnover by observation:
| Date | Price | Rolling 24h turnover |
|---|---|---|
| October 9 | $0.232 | 3.284 billion ADA |
| October 10 | $0.243 | 1.690 billion ADA |
| October 11 | $0.249 | 2.111 billion ADA |
| October 12 | $0.2436 | 1.529 billion ADA |
| Latest snapshot | $0.2424 | 1.578 billion ADA |
This pattern can be read two ways:
- Seller exhaustion: the climb from $0.232 happened while turnover fell from its October 9 high. That could mean selling pressure was drying up, which would be constructive.
- Weak buyers: the move above $0.244–$0.246 drew only modest participation, and the slide back below it needed no surge in turnover either.
On balance, the second reading fits better. A reclaim that matters usually comes with expanding participation as price breaks through the level. This one did not. That does not show heavy selling. It shows that buyers did not commit enough to turn the old base back into support.
Where the whale activity fits
Cardano Feed, citing COINTURK, reports that Cardano transactions above $100,000 have reached their highest level since June 4. The report does not say whether those transfers were buying, selling, exchange deposits, internal wallet moves or something else. A count of large transactions shows that big holders are active. It does not show net demand.
The timing is still worth noting. The activity happened while ADA was trading around the contested zone, which is where large holders' decisions matter most.
- If it was accumulation: it should show up as ADA holding above $0.244–$0.246 on rising turnover. That has not happened yet.
- If ADA keeps failing at the zone despite the activity: distribution or neutral repositioning becomes the more likely explanation. Even then, it would not be proven without wallet-level or exchange-flow data.
For now, the whale report makes ADA more sensitive to events without telling us which way.
TradingPedia reports that futures positioning and taker flow are pointing in opposite directions. Without published funding, open-interest or liquidation figures, that headline adds no directional evidence.
Retail attention without absorption
Cardano Feed reports that ADA now accounts for nearly a quarter of new-user trading volume at Bitvavo, ahead of Bitcoin and XRP in that group. That is real retail engagement on a regulated exchange. Exchange volume is two-sided, though, and the October 12 rejection shows the difference between attention and marginal demand: interest can rise while buyers still fail to absorb supply at a key level.
Scenarios
- Repair: ADA climbs back above $0.246 and holds there across later CardanoScope observations. It then clears $0.249, and rolling turnover rises clearly from the latest 1.578 billion toward the October 9 reading of 3.284 billion. That would turn the failed reclaim into a successful second attempt and bring the $0.2675–$0.2704 area from October 6 and 7 back into view.
- Range: ADA stays between $0.232 and $0.249 and keeps crossing the $0.244–$0.246 zone without holding it, with turnover in the recent 1.5–2.1 billion range. Whale activity may continue, but it would not settle the direction.
- Breakdown: ADA stays below the zone and then breaks under the October 9 observation of $0.232. That would erase the whole rebound. CardanoScope's data shows no verified support below $0.232, and naming one would be false precision.
My near-term lean is neutral to bearish. The old base was reclaimed and then lost, on turnover that never confirmed the move, and the whale activity has no visible direction. The view improves if ADA can hold above $0.246 with expanding participation. It gets worse if $0.232 breaks on rising turnover. Until then, the whale headline is something to monitor, not a bullish catalyst.

¹ The October 8 brief used a 16:00 UTC snapshot of $0.2317. CardanoScope's daily observation for October 8 is $0.2554, sampled at a different time that day. Because of that gap, this piece does not use October 8 as a reference level.
